Dorothea C. Seidenglanz is charged with misdemeanor counts of interference with a flight crew and battery after Boise police say she hit a flight attendant in the head with a plastic cup during a flight from Seattle after it appeared Seidenglanz was mad because she had to turn her cell phone off during takeoff.
Boise police say Seidenglanz was verbally abusive towards the attendant during the flight and suspect alcohol use was a factor in what happened, according to reports.
Boise police arrested the 37-year-old after she got off the plane at the Boise Airport around 7 p.m. Friday.
Boise police were contacted by the plane’s crew, who told officers the trouble started when the plane was leaving Seattle and Seidenglanz refused, at first, to stop texting on her cell phone before takeoff. Airline officials told police Seidenglanz eventually complied and the plane took off.
It was when the plane was in the air that Seidenglanz is accused of being verbally abusive to the stewardess who had told her to turn off the cell phone during takeoff. Witnesses say Seidenglanz threw a plastic cup at the stewardess, which hit her in the head.
Boise police were waiting for Seidenglanz when she got off the plane and arrested her after an investigation. She was taken to the Ada County Jail, where she posted bond and was released.
A court date for Seidenglanz will be scheduled for later this month.
The crime of misdemeanor battery is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
